Hen Saddles
What is a hen saddle?
A hen saddle, or apron, is a cloth covering for a hen's back to protect her from feather loss and injuries due to rough roosters, too many roosters or even just protection from the sun during molt or while waiting for new feathers to grow in. When do my hens need a saddle? A saddle should be worn on any hen who is showing signs of wear on her back or has any scabs or scratches. Are there multiple sizes available? Yes. We make saddles for every size from serama and old english game bantam to broad breasted turkey. Can I put saddles on my hens just to look nice? Of course! Our saddles are designed to be comfortable and barely noticeable by any hen wearing one. Why One Mountain Acres saddles? Our saddles are handmade with sturdy denim backing and strong interfacing under the fabric to improve strength and longevity. We also scotch guard our saddles to add an extra layer of protection from the elements (of course, we will omit the scotch guard if it's not wanted). |
